My managing agent or freeholder
- My managing agent ignores me. How do I complain properly?Complain in writing through the agent's complaints procedure. If that fails, take it to the redress scheme the agent belongs to, which is free.
- What is a recognised tenants' association and is it worth setting one up?It is a group of leaseholders in a building that the landlord or a tribunal has formally recognised. Recognition gives the group legal rights that individual leaseholders do not have.
Taking control of my block
- What is Right to Manage and does my building qualify?Right to Manage lets the leaseholders of a block take over its management through a company they control. Your building qualifies if it meets a set of tests about the building and the leases.
- How many neighbours do I need, and how do I get them on board?Leaseholders of at least half of all the flats in the building must be members of the Right to Manage company. If the building has only two flats, both must join.
- What are we responsible for once we take over? The Right to Manage company takes over the landlord's management jobs under the leases: services, repairs, maintenance, improvements, insurance and management.
